We should be aware that each day we are losing our nature because of our mistakes that we make. It would be nice if we all could do something to preserve our flora and fauna because remember people, we only have one mother earth. There are a lot of endangered species out there that we are losing because of environmental pollution. I have some good ideas we could do to preserve our nature:
· We could plant trees in our schools
· Recycle
· Help endangered species reproduce
· Preserve our flora and fauna
Here is a link that gives us some ways of preserving our nature: http://www.ehow.com/how_2170618_preserve-nature.html/
Let me know guys if you have more ideas about preserving nature :)
ReplyDeleteI think for us to perserve our nature, we need to sacrifice some things we take for granted. I heard that in Australia they are only given 5 mintues a day to take a shower and that is LAW. Some of places are considering recycling sewage water because they have no more fresh water. I mean we can try and do things at a personal level and that would help if everyone played their part. but I think some new policies are going to have to be put in place and make them law. People will not like it but it is what we need to do to perserve our nature.
ReplyDeleteIt is cool to think in terms of concrete steps we can take right now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kohl too that it is going to require sacrifice, especially the water issue. Many of us in the US may not fully understand what so many other global citizens experience in their lack of access to clean water.
It is a trip to think a five minute shower is sacrifice for us, yet access to even that much clean water on a daily basis alone would mean a world of difference to so many others on the planet right now.
Being on water rations sucks. I'll tell you that from first hand experience. Imagine sharing a bedroom with 300 people that haven't been allowed to shower in 3 days because of lack of water production capabilities.
ReplyDeleteA few problems I see with our (pretty much the whole population) model for conservation, preservation and recycling are:
In developed countries, we are reactive as a species. It takes a depression or a job loss to put us in the mindset to grow or catch our own food.
This same idea goes for pollution. People don't start to worry about trash until it's piling up in the favorite swimming hole.
Same goes for conservation. We have knew long before the dust bowl that wind erosion could be a problem for farming. However, our country didn't start an active conservation push until the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. When a cloud of black dust and soot from Kansas was raining down on New York City, all of a sudden trees matter.
Also, people can be very lazy. If it's anything outside the box (outside of recycling at home, storing used auto oil in pans instead of pouring it on the ground, etc) we tend not to do it or consider doing it. New ideas could be brought forward by millions of people, yet only a few are actually presented. For instance, why are all the taxis in the city v6 and v8 Ford Crown Victorias that only get about 20mpg? Why can't we use Ford Fusion Hybrids that get twice that and carry about the same cargo? Because nobody is writing to GM or Ford and telling them to make their fleet vehicles for public transport fuel efficient, low emissions hybrids. Nobody is pressuring Yellow Taxi and others to order fuel efficient cars.
I could go on for days...
The main point is, we need to start teaching proactivity instead of reactivity when it comes to our environment and our resources. Do you wait until your house is completely buried in mud before you sweep the floor? Do you wait until you haven't any food in the cupboards or fridge to buy some more? Do you throw your empty bottles and wrappers on your floor until it's piled to the ceiling? Of course not. The earth is our home, and we better treat it like our home or it will kill us.
One time I was reading news online and accidently find out that US is the country which produces the most garbage in the world and at the meantime, is the country where has wasting most of the food globally as well. There are lot of things that we need to think about for our environment, not just for us, but our next, next generation.
